Michigan UHL teams - News & Notes
In the Eastern Conference, the Flint Generals remained five points ahead of the Port Huron Flags for the third seed in the East because both teams posted 2-2-0 records last week. Despite being five points behind, the Flags have the advantage of having 11 games remaining to play whereas the Generals only have eight more contests on the schedule. However, both clubs distanced themselves from the Elmira Jackals who went 0-3-0 last week and sit 10 points behind the Generals. With eight games remaining, the Jackals will need to get hot in order to catch Port Huron and Flint.
THE TEN SPOT – For the second time this season, a UHL team scored double-digit goals in one game. On Saturday, the Kalamazoo Wings defeated the Port Huron Flags 10-2. The other game this season when a team hit double-digit scoring was on Feb. 3 when the Rockford IceHogs lit the lamp 10 times against the Muskegon Fury.
Flint Generals - (2-2-0) – The Generals’ streak of five consecutive games ending in a shootout was snapped with a regulation loss to Bloomington on Friday…Flint is tied with Quad City for the most shootout losses this season with nine…Left wing Bobby Reynolds is on a five-game point streak (3g, 5a)…Defenseman Tyson Turgeon had five-game point streak snapped Sunday. During the span he tallied 11 points (1g, 10a) almost equaling his season point total prior to the start of the streak (15 points)…The Generals lead the league with 88 power-play goals.
Kalamazoo Wings – (2-1-0) – The 10 goals scored on Saturday during the Annual Green Ice Game were the highest total by the K-Wings in the game’s 26 year history. Kalamazoo’s first sellout crowd of the year witnessed the 10-2 win over Port Huron…Center Kory Karlander recorded his 200th career goal in the game...Left wing Nick Bootland broke the record for game-winning goals in a K-Wing’s UHL career (13) with his tally on Friday against Rockford...Kalamazoo snapped Rockford’s 11-game home winning streak on Friday with a 4-2 victory.
Muskegon Fury - (2-2-0) – With two victories over Elmira last week, the Fury captured the season series with an 8-1-0 record…With one more road win, Muskegon will tie the club record for most road wins in a season with 24…The Fury are five points away from their fourth consecutive 100-point season…Muskegon had an eight-game streak of allowing two goals or less snapped on Sunday in a 5-1 loss at Fort Wayne…In his pro debut, center Mark Nebus scored a goal and recorded a plus-3 rating…Center Todd Robinson (39g, 77a) is six points away from tying the single-season club record.
Port Huron Flags - (2-2-0) – With his hat trick on Sunday night, left wing Scott Wray became the third Flag to record a three-goal game this season…Center Steve Hildenbrand is on a three-game goal streak…With a 2-1 win over Muskegon on Wednesday, Port Huron has now won four of its last five meetings with the Fury. The win also marked just the fifth time this season that the Flags won when trailing after the second period…Center Greg Bullock has recorded a point in eight of his last 10 games…Bullock ranks fifth in the UHL in power play assists with 25.
